How To Make Flapper Dresses

I needed to know how to make flapper dresses because I was taking part in a production of the musical The Boyfriend with my local amateur dramatics theatre group and we needed these for our costumes. I like sewing so I offered to make these dresses.

I went to my local dress shop, hoping to find an easy pattern for 1920’s flapper dresses but the only ones they had seemed a little too difficult for me. So I started to scour the internet for inspiration.

I finally found the one hour dress, an authentic flapper dress pattern that could be made in an hour. Not only could I make flapper dresses very quickly, but I also found that there were different styles included. This was great because it meant the whole group of ladies were able to have individual dresses. It didn’t cost too much either. Actually it worked out to be cheaper than the ones I found in my local shop.

As well as the pattern that I used, I got a 40-page book with details of how to make an alternative dress that would take 2 hours and fantastic pictures of dresses from the 1920s era.

This was an added bonus and really helped when I had to choose the fabrics for the flapper dresses. If you need authentic flapper dresses for a show or even a fancy dress party, I would recommend that you try the one hour dress. Nice, quick and easy.
